toilet frog

Image
Last week I had to visit the bathroom in the middle of the night. Whilst there I may have closed my eyes for a few minutes. I was woken up when the toilet frog jumped into my lap and down my leg. It gave me quite a fright and I now know not to fall asleep on the toilet again! Laura

the Texas team left

Image
For the last few weeks we have been joined by a team from Texas we had a special breakfast to thank them and say goodbye. There was so many interesting things to try from sharky (a cured meat) to fried yucca, and a milky sweetcorn soup. Some of it was nice!! These are some of our friends on the team.

new training centre

Image
This is the construction that is going on behind our room (we live at the far end of the block you can see on the left) this is the roof from which the man fell. Apparently he has two broken arms, I would say that is very lucky (or a blessing!). This will be the new missionary training centre and classrooms and conference room that we will meet in for services and morning chapel. This is the chapel at the moment. Its very sweet. The staff meet in there every morning and every Tuesday evening we have a service for the community.

Please pray

Just now one of the workers from the construction site ( different one to Tony's) fell 3 storeys without any protection, he's not in a good way. The ambulance is coming but it's taking a while. We are all quite worried.

out on the streets

Last night out on the streets of down town Recife I had the most profound experience. We were approached by a man who needed first aid, which was nothing out of the ordinary as we carry a conspicuous whites box with a red cross on it and regularly give first aid. On this particular occasion a man was needed to administer the help. as the patient was bleeding from the left butt cheek, which was evident from the large blood stain on his shorts. I was called over and asked to help, to which I agreed, after a brief initiation into what was in the first aid box, I took the man a little down the road to gain a little privacy. The moment had come and he dropped his shorts!! I was face to face with a nasty looking abscess, which was oosing blood and puss. By this point so many things are rushing through my mind! What am I doing? I am so out of my depth, can I clean this up with out vomiting? how must this man be feeling? will he be able to keep it clean once I have finished? Any way I had t

please don't tell the cook!!

today for dinner we had soup, mine had 2 small cubes of boiled beef, a light sprinkling of mince meat and a solitary fragment of sliced reconstituted ham, apart from the aforementioned fragments of assorted meat, the soup primeraly consisted of potato, spaghetti, carrots and a salty chicken stock (I think). I suplimmented this with 2 bread roles from the shop down the road, and butter. I am sorry to say that I could not finish the soup, is was not half as nice as I have described it!! I really miss cooking!!!
